Lake Toba, the crater lake in the middle of North Sumatera Province, is a popular tourist resort, especially the town of Parapat on its shore. Its cool and dry mountain climate makes it the perfect place to relax. The Lake Toba is the largest lake in Southeast Asia, once created by an enormous eruption less than 100,000 years ago. The eruption was approximately 8,000 times more powerful than the eruption of Mount St.Helen in 1981.

Nias Island lies on latitude 10 30’ north and longitude 970 98’ east. It covers an areas of 5,625 km2 which is mostly lowland area of ± 800 m above sea level.
It is the biggest in a group of islands on this side of Sumatera that is part of the province of North Sumatera. Nias has a very unique culture and nature which is far different from other areas in North Sumatra. This is because of its separate and remote location from the rest of Sumatra.
Until 2003, Nias was an administrative regency, part of the province of North Sumatera. In 2003 it was split into two regencies; Nias and Southern Nias. Then, in 2009 It was split again into five regencies; Nias, Gunungsitoli, Western Nias, Northern Nias, and Southern Nias.
